Today we will learn how to draw a crown. While our easy crown drawing is fairly basic, by adding details – some jewels and an outline of the velvet hat – we will get an impressive-looking crown fit for any king or queen even from the simple drawing.
These are the favorites we use for drawings on Let's Draw That that we love and recommend:

How to draw a crown: base sketch step by step
Step 1: Draw the guidelines
Let's start our crown drawing with a few simple guidelines. Draw two parallel curves at the bottom – these will mark the crown's headband. Then add three vertical straight lines going up – these will guide us in drawing the crown peaks.
Step 2: Close the crown headband and add the round tops
Close the crown headband's sides with two small curves. Then draw three small circles on the top of the vertical lines – these will be the simple decorations on the top peaks of the crown.
If you feel circles are too simple and would like a challenge, many real royal crowns would have fleur-de-lis as decorative ends – try to swap the circles for the royal symbol.
Step 3: Draw the crown peaks
It is now time to draw the actual crown. Draw curved "V" shapes between the three circles. Notice that the "Vs" start where the straight guideline intersects the top circle on the outer sides, but are a touch apart on the middle peak.
Then add two more straight lines down along the outer sides for the outer edges of the crown. These are as far apart from the existing down guideline as the sides of the inner "V" are from the center line, to give the side peaks the same width.
Step 4: Draw the velvet hat
Many royal crowns are lined with a velvet hat – that is what we are drawing next. Draw it as a simple two-part curve – starting in the center of the middle circle, and curving out just a bit past each side of the crown. Then close the hat with two sides curving back to the crown base.
Finally, add the lower end of the headband. If you were adding the crown to the king's head, you would not need this line – but here it is visible since we are looking at the crown slightly from the bottom up.
Step 5: Decorate the crown with some jewels
Our basic easy crown drawing is complete, all that is left is to add some decorative jewels. These can come in many shapes.
Here we are decorating the headband with three circles and two hexagons between them. Then we are adding one more hexagon on the middle peak, and two half domes on the sides.
Feel free to add some more jewels, perhaps smaller or other shapes – squares or rectangles – to make your crown pretty.
Put a king under your crown next:
How to draw a crown: outline the drawing step by step
Step 1: Outline the crown jewels
The jewel outlines are the topmost lines – start drawing the crown by outlining these first.
Step 2: Draw the crown headband and top circles
Next, outline the headband and the three small circles at the top of the crown.
Step 3: Draw the crown itself
Now it is time to outline all three visible peaks on the actual crown. Notice we have broken the outer edges, as these are now hidden behind the large jewels.
Step 4: Draw the velvet hat
Finally, draw the velvet hat that lines up the crown. Round off the sharp corners on the sides, and break the outline where the hat is hiding behind the crown.
Here is another crowned royal to draw:

How to draw a crown: finished outline drawing
Here is the completed crown drawing outline, after we have erased the sketch lines. While this is a very simple way how to draw a crown, it still looks good. Once you decorate it with some rich jewels, it is perfectly fit for a king (or queen).
Easy crown drawing coloured-in
And the easy crown drawing looks even better once you color it in. The crown itself is golden yellow.
Our jewels are red rubies, blue sapphires, and green emeralds, as you can surely tell. We have a tutorial for a very fancy diamond drawing if you want to try to add another feature jewel to your crown. Finally, the velvet hat is a dark, royal red.
